Daylite FTP Login Widget
This Widget allows you to save the login details for any number of FTP servers for your Daylite Contacts, Organisations, etc., and then, with one click, connect to any of them directly within your favourite FTP program.
This Widget is ideal if you are a web developer and need to keep track of dozens of FTP servers for your clients’ sites, or if you regularly have to upload files for your clients to download.
As well as keeping all the actual login details to hand for quick reference, it will pass off the connection task to your default FTP program and make the connection automatically, ready to go.
The HUD Display
When activated (and the details of an appropriate FTP Server have been entered) the FTP Login Widget will appear like this in the HUD area of the Daylite interface.
Installation
1. Click on the Download Widget link above to transfer the Widget installer to your machine. If the name of the downloaded file ends with .zip, you will have to decompress the file by double-clicking it.
2. You should now have a file saved to your machine called FTPLogin.dlwkt, that looks like this:
3. Double-click this file and Daylite will open and ask if you wish to install the Widget; click Install to agree to the dialog.
Assuming everything works as expected, the Widget is now installed.
Setup FTP Login Form
Before you can use the FTP Login Widget you have to create the Daylite Form that the Widget uses.
1. Select the menu item Daylite→Preferences… and choose Forms & Fields.
2. Create a new Form called FTP Login, setup as shown below:
3. With the FTP Login Form selected, create the following five fields:
4. Close the Preferences window and return to the main Daylite interface.
Enter FTP Server Details
For each FTP Server that you want to appear in the Daylite HUD, attach a copy of the FTP Login Form to your Contact, Org, etc., filling in the appropriate details, as shown below:
Activate Widget
To activate the Widget, click on the small plus symbol (+) in the top-right hand corner of the Contact Detail view.
This will reveal a drop-down sheet listing all the available Widgets for this type of object (Contact, Organisation, etc.).
To activate a Widget simply ensure that the check-box next to it has been turned on.
Using The Widget
Using the Widget is now simply a case of creating a new FTP Login Form for each server that you wish to track; the data in each Form is then parsed and should appear in the HUD. To connect to a server just click the appropriate Connect link in the HUD and Daylite will pass the command off to the default FTP program you have installed on your machine and make the connection automatically.
If you have any problems using the Widget, please visit the Daylite forums and see if there is a solution there, or contact me directly.
